Wings

There was once a girl who was promised wings,
“Study hard,” she was told,
For she’d be granted luxury, gold and all the finest things.
But for what price? She asked.
She shouldn’t worry, they assured.
But certainly there was a price for riches and gold?

Doctor, engineer, lawyer, accountant;
One of these will do,
“Look at how easy your cousin has it” but they don’t understand the pressure like I do.

The girl abided,
Her wings painted to their desire
I mean, rebelling would only put her under fire

A beauty, no doubt
but she realised those wings were no longer hers
and she no longer wants to fly.

love,
atysharieff.
